The Kalamazoo Marine Corps League sends our compliments to the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) and the Girl Scouts of America (GSA) as we support their goals and activities.
The Marine Corps League has initiated a plan of mutual support to foster the ideals of Americanism and patriotic volunteerism among America’s youth. We encourage our local BSA Districts and GSA Regional Centers to expand their involvement of support for causes specific to the Marine Corps League and our nation’s military and veteran communities at large. The Marine Corps League’s Kalamazoo Detachment will encourage and expand our involvement in support of scouting programs toward our mutual goals for a better and more patriotic America.
The Marine Corps League believes strongly that our youth are our future and that it is our responsibility to prepare them for that future. The BSA Scout Oath and Law and the GSA Promise and Law instills in youth is a strong foundation for future success. The Marine Corps League is excited about formalizing and strengthening our relationships with Scouting and the future opportunities for us to work together to support America’s youth!
Eagle, Gold, and Service Projects
The Marine Corps League – Kalamazoo Detachment 879, Veterans of Foreign Wars – Red Arrow Post 1527, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War – General Benjamin Pritchard Camp 20, American Legion – Joseph B. Westnedge Post 36, and The Kalamazoo County – Veterans Service Office have constructed a list of projects, from various Veteran Service Organizations based in Kalamazoo County, that require assistance. These projects will directly benefit local veterans’ groups, organizations, and individual veterans in need.
This list will contain a brief project description, project location, whether it is for service hours or is a potential Eagle or Gold Project, funded or the Scout needs to raise funds (if applicable), desired completion date and/or time, point of contact (POC), and project status (available, assigned, in process, or completed). If a unit or Scout is interested in a project, please contact the listed POC. Once a project has been assigned or completed the POC will notify the list administrator to change the status of the project.
If the project can’t be completed by the Scout as agreed upon, he or she needs to notify the project POC ASAP so that the project can be reclassified as available.
• It is the Scout’s responsibility to keep the POC appraised of the project status and progress on a weekly basis.
• All projects must be approved by your unit leader!
If you have any questions, comments, or ideas for a service or Eagle project, please contact the Detachment Scout Coordinator, Rich Walsh. See our Current Project List and Status for information.
